This multi-partner programme is working with local authorities to embed public health research in policy and practice.
Funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) until December 2028, it will build both the capacity and capability to address health inequalities.
Partners include Cornwall Council, the University of Exeter, Falmouth University, the University of Plymouth, and the voluntary, community, and social enterprise sectors in Cornwall.
Each partner will bring different perspectives relevant to the determinants of health, covering health priorities, service delivery and decision-making, research methods, and lived experience.
Researchers at the European Centre and other departments at the University of Exeter will work closely with Cornwall Council to explore evidence-based solutions which address specific health priorities.
The programme will work with a citizens’ research group and use creative methods to address the issues that matter most to local Cornish communities.
Key outcomes will include evidence-based, scalable initiatives that address core public health issues, a skilled and knowledgeable workforce across local authorities, and public members who are empowered to contribute to decisions that concern health.
