Dr Michiel Vos

Senior lecturer

Dr Michiel Vos is an evolutionary microbiologist working at the interface of microbiology, evolutionary ecology and population genomics.

Mick studies bacterial populations retrieved from the environment using experimental approaches and sequencing. His main research foci are Horizontal Gene Transfer, pangenomes and the ecology and evolution of antibiotic-resistant pathogens. He has published >50 papers in the journals Science, Current Biology, Trends in Microbiology, Environment International and the ISME Journal.

He leads two undergraduate modules: ‘Oceans and human health’ and ‘Living with environmental change’ and also teaches on the MSc in environment and human health. Mick is co-lead of the ‘Global and planetary health’ special study units and supervises MSc, MSci, MbyRes, PTY and international MSc students in addition to supervising and co-supervising PhDs and PDRAs
