Dr Richard Sharpe

Dr Richard Sharpe is a consultant in public health and an environmental epidemiologist working in the public health team at Cornwall Council, he is also honorary associate professor at the University of Exeter.

At Cornwall Council Richard leads on public health research, mental health and suicide prevention, learning disability and autism, drugs and alcohol, social prescribing, and work with the armed forces community.

Rich is the centre director for the NIHR funded Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) Cornwall and has a diverse research background – also acting as a speciality tutor for the South West Public Health Training Programme.

He has an interest in both primary and secondary research, including the use of large data and service evaluations – such as social prescribing, energy efficiency, drug and alcohol treatmen, and mental health programmes – through to the wider determinants of health and health inequalities.

Rich has worked with multidisciplinary teams on a number of research areas related to health and housing, including the Health and Housing project, Eaga Charitable Trust funded project, SenseWell, and the Smartline project.

He has also focused on pollution, mental health and suicide prevention, AI approaches, social prescribing and systematic reviews .
