Dr Divya Bhagtani

Postdoctoral research associate

  • d.bhagtani@exeter.ac.uk

Dr Divya Bhagtani is a postdoctoral research associate with an interest in global health and nutrition.

Her current research aims to understand the links between food production, ecosystems, and human health—particularly how food source practices and dietary choices affect health. She is part of the NIHR-funded Global Health Research Group on Community Food for Human Nutrition and Planetary Health in Small Islands (Global CFaH).

Divya has a PhD in nutritional epidemiology from the University of Cambridge. Her PhD research quantified the consumption of ultra-processed foods, assessed their sociodemographic correlates and investigated their associations with chronic diseases such as obesity, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes, in South Asian countries.

She has also worked across diverse populations to investigate the determinants of diet and health in the Pacific, Caribbean, Africa, and South Asia.
