Monika Walia is a PhD student working on the project Climate change and mental health – exploring trends across Australia and the UK. She is the recipient of QUEX PhD scholarship – a partnership between The University of Queensland and the University of Exeter to bolster joint global research impact under the overarching banner of ‘Global Sustainability and Wellbeing’. Her PhD will focus on exploring trends in climate change-related mental health illnesses, inequalities, and resiliencies across geography, and wealth.
She achieved first-class honours for her undergraduate degree in Statistics and a postgraduate degree in Applied Operational Research from the University of Delhi, India. She has over 6 years’ experience of working on various health and development related issues as a public health researcher with Population Council, India Office and International Food Policy Research Institute, South Asia Region.
Key areas of Monika’s previous research include climate change, air pollution, Reproductive Maternal New-born Child Health and Nutrition (RMNCH+N), family planning, HIV/AIDS, and community mobilization interventions among marginalized populations. Her research work mainly focused on identifying issues at various levels of the health system cascade and identifying potential solutions to address systemic bottlenecks.
