Participants needed for new study

Posted on 3rd August 2012

PhD student Josey Field is currently working on research that will examine the relationship between young adults, their nature sports, and environmental charities.

As part of this study, Josey is looking to recruit a number of participants that regularly take part in activities such as surfing, mountain biking, trail running or climbing.

The project is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council and is aiming to develop an insight into how sporting activities can help develop human connections with the natural environment. It is also attempting to unpick how charities such as the National Trust can help to manage outdoor spaces – in a way that recognises the needs of nature sports enthusiasts.

If you would like to take part, please watch the video, take a moment to read the details below and get in touch at josey.field@pcmd.ac.uk.

You can find more information about the project here and on Josey’s blog. You can also contact Josey if you have questions about the research and would like to know more.

Who is the project looking for?

  • Females and males
  • Aged between 18-30
  • Who would describe themselves as keen surfers, mountain bikers, trail runners or climbers
  • Who have been dedicated to their nature sport for at least a year or more

What would you have to do?

  • Meet up with a researcher for one interview
  • The interview will last between 1 ½ – 2 hours
  • You will talk about your personal sporting experiences, the natural environment, and environmental charities in general and specifically the National Trust

What do I need to bring to the Interview?

  • Any material (photographs, movies etc) that can help demonstrate what your sport is like for you

Where would we meet?

  • Ideally in one of your favourite sporting spots, but the interview can take place anywhere
