This event is part of the ESRC funded seminar series More of the same is not enough: New directions in ageing and physical activity.
The day-long seminar will examine how participation in physical activity might take the form of a career, helping people to stay active as they grow older.
Through a series of presentations and panels, it will consider how a ‘physical activity career’ can promote and enable physically active lifestyles. It will explore how this approach can make exercise a habitual and routine part of older people’s ‘everyday’ practices.
Speakers will include:
Professor Gertrude Pfister, University of Copenhagen
Dave Terrace, AgeUK
Professor Barbara Humberstone, Bucks New University
To register for this event please contact Dr Noreen Orr on ageingpa@exeter.ac.uk with a completed registration form (available to the right of this page) before Friday 14th November.
The seminar is free to attend and there are 10 travel bursaries available to early career researchers. The bursary will cover the costs of up to £50 worth of travel. It is available on a first come, first served basis. Please download the application form to the right of this page to apply.
There are currently more people over the age of 60 than ever before, and this number is steadily increasing. People tend to become less physically active as they grow older with significant impacts on health and wellbeing.
This seminar series will bring together academics from diverse subject areas that include sociology, psychology, geography, sport and health sciences and establish a healthy ageing network. It will include policy makers, health and social care practitioners, physical activity and sport providers, and those working within the voluntary and statutory sectors.
