Working with Social Enterprises
“Being able to work with the University of Exeter, and to be part of research that will add value to our programme is going to be vital to our survival and growth – it’s really important to us” Emma Fowle, Exhale
Exhale is a social enterprise that designs, promotes and delivers innovative approaches to tackle the social problems that contribute to health inequalities.
Exhale has already had considerable success with their Keep it in the Family programme, aimed at reducing childhood obesity by improved use of the moorland and coastal environments.
Building upon this the European Centre for Environment & Human Health has partnered with Exhale to create an ESF funded PhD that will investigate the benefits to children of interacting with the aquatic environment. This work forms the basis of a long term opportunity for the organisation to engage with academic research, gaining a greater understanding of the way the ‘Blue Gym’ can impact children’s health and wellbeing. Crucially, this knowledge will allow Exhale to develop robust interventions that are founded by rigorous scientific research.
